Nine new issues of The Light of the Dhamma have been posted on the Pariyatti Treasures website. These issues contains invaluable writings from Burma around the era of the Sixth Buddhist Council, which took place in Yangon for two years. During this time 2,500 learned monks of the Theravada sangha examined the Tipitaka and its allied literature in all scripts, with their differences noted down, the necessary corrections made, and collated.
The Light of the Dhamma was created in celebration of the beginning of the second sasana or 2,500 years of the Buddha's teaching. The new issues are:
- Vol 2 Iss. 2 - April 1954
- Vol 5 Iss. 1 - January 1958
- Vol 5 Iss. 2 - July 1958
- Vol 5 Iss. 4 - October 1958
- Vol 6 Iss. 1 - January 1959
- Vol 6 Iss. 2 - April 1959
- Vol 6 Iss. 3 - July 1959
- Vol 6 Iss. 4 - October 1959
- Vol 7 Iss. 2 - April 1960
Correspondence between Dr. Leon Wright and Sayagyi U Ba Khin from 1958 has been added to the Sayagyi U Ba Khin Treasures page.

Letters from the Dhamma Brothers Book and Related Film Get Noticed |

|
Pariyatti's new title Letters from the Dhamma Brothers went on sale in bookstores September 1. This 240-page book of inmate letters is attracting media attention that may help raise awareness about the Buddha's teachings, the transformative effects of Vipassana, prisoner rehabilitation needs, and associated public policy issues. The book features letters from 15 inmates, written over a four-year period, describing how they are changed and continuing to change, and ways they are working to exert a positive influence within the harsh prison environment. The Dhamma Brothers, a documentary film about the Vipassana program at Alabama's maximum-security prison, continues to play at U.S. theatres and film festivals, including in Alabama this weekend. A long interview with author and filmmaker Jenny Phillips recently appeared in the Toronto Globe & Mail newspaper.

Two Titles Back to Press |

|
We are happy that steady sales of The Discourse Summaries by S.N. Goenka and The Noble Eightfold Path, by Bhikkhu Bodhi, have necessitated going back to press to reprint more copies. However, book sales are slow at this time of year, and donations are lower than usual. Printing costs will be $8,100. To designate a financial contribution toward this expense, you can email supporters@pariyatti.org or call Pariyatti at 360.978.4998. If you have been thinking of making a donation, this would be a great time to do so.
