The Word of the Buddha

The author of this book, Nynatiloka Thera, the eminent German scholar-monk, was one of the best known Buddhists in the late 19th and early 20th century. This small book (100 pages) contains an “outline of the teachings of the Buddha in the words of the Pali Canon.” It is organized around the Four Noble Truths with small commentaries from time to time to better explain the selected texts. The selected texts form a connected whole, linking every chapter in a logical way. After reading this book, you might want to look into another anthology, also written by Ven.
